Aum namah Shivaya.

Shivaratri Blessings.

Just before Amavasaya, at the void of the moon or the ‘no-moon night,’ Maha Shivaratri, the Hindu festival also known as the Great Night of Shiva arrives. (This falls on Saturday 18th February). The event celebrates the upsurge of life force energy (kundalini shakti) mirrored by the planet tilting at a 90 degree angle towards the northern hemisphere. We celebrate the union of Shiva and Parvati, said to have wedded on this day, a marriage of purusha and prakriti (consciousness and manifestation).

A night to stay awake, sit in sukhasana (or a comfortable asana) with the spine tall, and meditate on the divinity of the self and the cosmos -that which you are made up of. Chanting Shiva mantras in your mind are also beneficial. Contemplate on the cycles of life and death; this is an opportunity to release heavy karmic baggage; literally a dark night of the soul. Do your spiritual sadhana and harmonise the manas shakti towards the highest consciousness in the form of Adhi Yogi (Shiva).

Anchor into your deepest inner silence.

Empty yourself to be filled with light.
