Mercury has just gone retrograde (Jan 31st) — retrograde planets are an invitation to slow down, revisit and discover some new information and action, a chance to resolve old karma.
In Vedic astrology Mercury is known as ‘Budha’ the part of our essence that ‘knows’ — the intellect, the higher mind, he gives the ability of discrimination. Budha is so revered that he is known as ‘Grahapati’ — lord of the planets. He presides over matters of home and career, giving good education and fortune — if he is favourably placed in one’s chart.
He is also a karaka or indicator of communication, commerce and technology — any means through which intelligence or knowledge is transmitted or where there is a transaction.
The effect of a retrograde planet is pretty strong as they are positioned closer to Earth.
Speaking of strong planets, on Feb 4th, there is going to be a huge pile up planets in the sign of Capricorn — including retrograde Mercury — add the Moon in on the 9th and there will be total of 6 planets in one area of the sky! (This has not happened since 60 years).
It’s definitely an interesting time — a combustion of sorts, usually this fortells a dark event — but hey, how worse can it get? …. Let’s not answer that.
Mercury is understood to be evaluative and wise — which area of your life needs this extra light? He goes direct on Feb 20th (depending on where you are) — giving you plenty of time to reflect on important goals, relationships, business matters etc. and to take action that is better aligned to your overall wellbeing and purpose.
In Capricorn, the energy suggests to cultivate disciplined focus and organisation as Saturn rules over this sign — government affairs and communication and career status are also highlighted.
JOURNAL THIS:
1) What situation, project, contract, event, relationship etc. needs more consideration, clearer communication and reflection?
2) What can I see now that I couldn’t see or understand and deal with before?
3) What doors am I closing?
4) What needs organisation and where shall I move my focus during this retrograde?
5) What new action steps will I take?
Be open to receiving new information and to what unfolds. Change is inevitable. Flexibility and versatility is important. Rebuild with commitment and with new perspectives.
Rise Up, Warrior.
