Every month, I pull oracle energy cards for myself to provide me a clear mirror of what to expect and where my focus should go this month along with the potential obstacles. (I also provide this service as part of my offerings!)
I feel compelled to share my Goddess Oracle Energy for the month of February.
She is Persephone, best known as Demeter’s daughter, the maiden who was abducted by Hades, Lord of the underworld. The Greek version of her myth reflects the usurpation of female mysteries by a patriarchal mythology. In this version, Persephone personifies the kore, the maiden aspect of the Goddess.
World mythologies offer a lesson about nature through these stories. Even the Ramayana shares a similar story of Sita being abducted by a demon king, and like the Greek myth, both women disappear underground — under the earth.
I offer this story as medicine this week, because of the stellium of planets gathered in Capricorn right now — the earth energy, along with the New Moon happening this week on the 11th! Capricorn is a practical and serious earth sign that is focussed on achieving goals — tending to the ‘ground work’ — the foundation of one’s life is important right now.
This is a deeply inward time, even Mercury is asking us to self-enquire, to face the things that are surfacing once more for you to put in their right place. (See last week’s Mercury retrograde article.)
Persephone’s myth nonetheless exemplifies the cycles of nature, for when Persephone is underground, plants do not bloom, and when she returns to earth, spring ensues.
Notice the theme of grief too which the image of this card conveys. The Mother’s grief and the daughter’s. Is it time for you to shed the heaviness of what is attached to your physical and emotional body?
Can you hold both grief and joy? You must allow spring to arrive, make space. Grieve what must transform and change.
Her power, like the divine feminine’s, is of transformation. That is also your power.
In the Orphic mysteries, Persephone granted wisdom to the initiate, for she is the goddess of a dark, uncomfortable wisdom, a goddess of frightening power.
Persephone represents the ability to rule over the aspects of ourselves that are terrifying in the extreme.
Reach into the depths of earth, the inner depth of your Self. Confront the avoidance and resistance of buried, or perhaps stagnant patterns that are controlling your life’s direction.
Do the yoga — the self-enquiry. Move the grief and make space for new things to blossom!
